Ann’s Shoe Tavern, Ogden, Utah, 1930s

In the 1920s and 30s it was popular to build restaurants and bars in the form of a food they sold or in other fun shapes. These roadside attractions were designed to attract tourists. This is a French press photograph of one such place, just north of Ogden, Utah. “Ann’s Shoe Tavern” opened for business in June of 1935. The shoe-shaped restaurant would be renamed three years later (“Ye Olde Shoe Tavern”), and would go through several other incarnations before finally being torn down in 1956.

On Back French Translation:

AN ORIGINAL RESTAURANT.

Yes... this huge shoe is a restaurant. Madame Anne Fleming had the original idea of giving this form to her establishment, near Ogden (Utah) in the United States, and she has enjoyed immense success.
